what to expect on a sunday

Church can be an intimidating place to visit — especially if you don’t know what to expect. We invite you to experience what the Gospel means both intellectually and relationally at our Sunday worship service. We hope that through visiting with us, you will experience the hope, love and joy that comes from a community of people who love Jesus.

(please note: below is a typical Sunday for an English-speaking individual. Please click here to learn about all our activities offered in multiple languages.)

  • Shortly before 9:30am - Arrive at TSBC

    Click for directions

If driving, parking is available at the rear of building or street side. Our address is 17 Gordon Avenue, Toronto, Ontario M1S 1A6.

  • 9:30am - English Worship Service

    Main Chapel

    1. You enter the chapel (see picture) and are greeted by an usher who will provide you with a schedule of service.

    2. We typically begin with singing praises to our Lord and God (typically this time is led by one or more people).

    3. We are given an opportunity to offer back to God (this act of monetary giving is not expected or obligated as it is only out of a joyous heart (2 Corinthians 9:7) that we offer back to God as a christian).

    4. We then have prayer time to calm our hearts and reflect on God's work in our lives, our standing before Him, and pray for others around the world. We are led by someone during this prayer time.

    5. We read a passage from the Bible together as this will be the key focus for the message/sermon shared that day.

    6. A pastor will then preach the Word of God to us so that we can grow closer to God, learn about how to become more like our Jesus and share the Good News with others (average sermon length is: 35-40 mins).

    7. We typically would then sing another song of praise in response that allows us to reflect on the message/sermon just preached.

  • 11:00am - Refreshments

    Church House

We take some time to walk over to the church house located directly across the driveway/entrance and eat and drink some refreshments and catch up on what is going on in each other lives. We find this is a great chance for newcomers to connect with us and us with them.

  • 11:30am - Sunday School

    Church House

At this time, we begin to split into our groups/classes (click here for types of classes). This time is devoted to learning about issues that relate to our walk with God. From Bible studies, to topical learnings, to discussions on other faiths we try to uncover all the elements of who God is and what it means to be Christian in this world. (average 1 hour class)

  • 12:30pm - Scheduled Activities End

We typically finish our scheduled service just prior to lunch time (plenty of great places to eat in the neighbourhood). It may be a longer day than you expected but it will move by quickly. We would be excited to have you join us to learn about questions of life and how God loves you.
